Cross-party Support for Damages (Scotland) Bill
As previously reported by Personal Injury Scotland, Labour MSP Bill Butler lodged a proposal in July 2009, aimed at speeding up the process of paying compensation for victims of disease and accidents including workplace accidents.
Following the consultation process, a total of 33 MSPs from the Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Green parties have given their support to his proposals, opening the way for a bill to be introduced. The consultation document and responses, together with a list of the MSPs supporting the proposalscan be viewed at the Scottish Parliament website
If the bill is introduced and passed, the changes would include removing the need for victims' relatives to go to court in some cases where liability is admitted.
