MPs' concerned over insurers behaviour

The behaviour of the insurance industry towards injured people has finally become an issue with MPs at Westminster. As previously reported by Personal Injury Scotland, insurers often resort to high pressure tactics in an effort to settle claims for much less than they are worth, or even attempting to get victims to waive their rights to compensation.

Linda Riordan, MP for Halifax and Road Safety Parliamentarian of the Year 2008, has now tabled an early day motion noting the concerns. The motion has attracted the support of more than 30 MP's. An early day motion is a means of demonstrating the extent of parliamentary support for a particular cause or point of view.

This issue also recently attracted the attention of the BBC when BBC Breakfast News and BBC Radio 4's Money Box programme ran a story about an injured person subjected to high pressure tactics from one particular insurance company (see BBC News Money Box).
