Workplace Fatalities Higher in Scotland

The average number of work-related deaths in Scotland in the past five years is 31, with 26 fatal injuries in 2008/2009, showing that the number of work related deaths in Scotland is on the decline.

Equally, a comparison of the fatal injury rates across EU countries has been undertaken by Eurostat. This comparison reveals that the fatal injury rate for Great Britain is one of the lowest in Europe. Whilst, a reduction in the number of work related deaths and one of the lowest fatal injury rates in Europe is heartening, progress must continue to be made to reduce these numbers even further.
