MSP lodges proposed bill on wrongful deaths
Labour MSP Bill Butler has lodged a proposal aimed at changing the law governing compensation for wrongful deaths. The purpose of the draft bill is to make compensation fairer and quicker for accident and disease victims, including workplace accident victims.
The Scottish Law Commission published its report "Damages for Wrongful Death" in September 2008 and Mr Butler's bill is based on the recommendations contained within that report. If passed, the changes would include removing the need for victims' relatives to go to court in some cases where liability is admitted.
